is a 4.10 too much for a A4 DD?
My car right now has 2.73 gears in it, is my daily driver, but i want to go at least with a 3.73 gear. The car is stock other than Longtubes, Non-catted Y pipe, SLP cat back, Tune, and a 3800 converter that hasnt gone in yet. For now the car will be n/a. Is 4.10 too much? Oh it will have a 28 tall tire too.

I went 373s in my honest opinion 410s would be too low on the highway at 60 my car is turning 21-2200rpms if you had an m6 yeah but i like the 373s....its a daylite to dark difference over the 2.73s.....makes the ls1 a whole new beast

I don't understand the advantage of going with a 28" tire unless your doing serious racing?

I used to have a car that had A3 and 4.10's... long story short, it cooked from a stop or slow roll but man on the highway that thing would howl from turning 3xxx rpms to go the speedlimit.

I daily drove my last Camaro for years with a 26" tire 3.73s, A-3, and a fairly loose converter. RPMs were a little over 3500 at 70mph. According to the gear calculator stickied at the top, 4.10s with a 4L60E and 26" tire would be a liesurely 2600 at 70mph. The only problem I see running 4.10s with a 60E might be traction issues with the deep first gear.

I used to drive a big block '68 pontiac with a 2800 stall, TH400 (no overdrive) and 4.11 gears in a 12 bolt with milled heads and a 244/244 .490/.510 110 cam EVERY FREAKIN DAY!!! 45mph was 2800 in 1:1 (3rd). If I had another gear it would have been sweet!!!!! I say go 4.10s and let it act like a real muscle car, plus it would probably make a killer 1/8th mile car!

Most people saying no dont' DD a 4.10 car.
I have been daily drivin(for the most part) my 99 with 4.10s...and absolutely love it.
You run about:
53 mph = 2000rpms
60 mph = 2300rpms
70 mph = 2700rpms
80 mph = 3000rpms
Sure you don't get the best gas mileage(avg 16.5) mixed driving.
I had 4.10s in the 10 bolt with mac headers and they knocked .39 off my ET.
Was runnin 12.69 and knocked me down to 12.30 @ 113.
Now with the 12 bolt and 4.11s need to throw the converter in there to hit 11s.
Plus my best 60ft is a 1.85, pretty good for a stock converter.

Thats what I'm talkin about!
Honestly I wasnt all that impressed with the way a 3.73 auto was in my friends 2000 SS. 4.10s would really make it sweet, especially if you drag race it... or pick on street cars. If its your ONLY car and you wake up every morning and drive three hours to work each way then no, 4.10s wouldnt be an ideal choice for your car... I think maybe a civic would be more suited for that sort of lifestyle. But if you drive it around town picking fights and racing at the track then HELL yeah, go 4.10s. Like I said earlier, I drove my 4.11 big block car every day. If I had of had an overdrive then it would have been perfect.
What is the overdrive ratio in the A4?
