Anyone running a 9-inch with a standard non-nodular center section?
Mods, feel free to move this to the drag racing section if it would be a better fit there.
My 6-speed LT1 car won't be making more than 400-450 at the crank any time soon. However, it still screwed up my 10-bolt pretty bad launching on a new set of 315 BFGs. I've been considering moving to a 9-inch since they have so much flexibility and are very price-competitive to a 12-bolt.
From what I've seen online, Moser, Strange, and Currie seem to tout nodular / N-case center sections as the be-all, end-all housing of choice. I won't dispute that they're strong. But at what point is a nodular case really necessary for a given application?

No. I broke/shearded a pinion in two in a GN, with a trans brake on 28x12.5 et streets. It made around 600 rwhp. Becaus ethe pinion broke the case broke. It was runnng 1.5 60's. I have two turbo ls1 f bodies running regular case 9 inchers. One went 10.20 the other is heavier and thats Zombiess car, it runs 10.50's. Both make 600+ and run 1.50 to 1.65 60's.... I would nt worry much.

There had been pictures on here of standard junkyard center sections installed in aftermarket 9 inch rears, which broke and dumped gear oil all over the starting line. The majority of todays cars make quite a bit of horsepower, and I recommend in investing in a good center section. Bob

I've read a lot lately on the 9" and most sights on the net say the factory third members are good for 450hp. the cheaper strange noduler priced aroung $240 they are saying can handle 650hp. I just ordered some axles from ^^^^^^^Bob and hope that the factory center section will make it to the end of the year.

Mid 10's is all I have seen a factory case go before the caps split in two. I laugh when I see the ring gear inprint out side of a 9 inch housing everytime.
