Default Strange v. Moser

Which is better and why? Becuase of issues with my rear I will be in the market for one soon. After reading the thread (https://ls1tech.com/ubb/ultimatebb.p...c;f=2;t=005092) about leaking seals and poor customer support with the Moser unit I am second guessing which one is the better rear.

WQhat are your thoughts? Which 12 bolt is better?

You forgot to mention DTS.
I have a 12 bolt DTS with ASR. No problems whatsoever. Same one Harlan is using on his Incon TT.

Strange seems to be the rearend of choice at the track i go to. Everyone has it and their axles too. Even my dad is a huge supporter. But you have to remember Strange is in the Chicago Land so thats probably why everyone uses theirs. I have heard great things about Mosers customer service and i have heard some not so great things. But for just the rearend they are probably the same in strength and all for the product. Honestly you should go with which one you can get the best price on.

The Moser is a bit cheaper but it does have the problems of the torq arm bolts backing out. You really need to keep an eye on them. The Moser uses 4 short bolts rather then the OEM 10 bolts 2 long bolts and nuts. I hear the Strange uses the same set-up as the OEM 10 bolt but I don't know for sure. Can anyone chime in that has the Strange to verify this?

I know guys with them backing out is because the didn't put in a lock washers, or really tighten them down with a long 1/2inch drive pivot wrench to over 100ftlbs. Only way to do it is on a hydrolic lift with the rear end all the way down. Since the bolts aren't supplied you should get the longest possible length of 1.5 inch 8pt bolts and tighten the **** out of it.

Strange uses the stock 2 bolt's,never had a problem with them. Also Strange and Moser ARE the same price when you option the Moser to have the same options that Strange comes with.

I just ordered a Moser 12 bolt last Friday. I Priced both before ordering and SlowHawk is correct, they are both just about the same price with equal options. The reason I went with the Moser which will ship this Wednesday(4 day turn) is because I couldn't afford the 6 week down time to wait for the Strange. I've also heard from several people on this board who have the Strange 12 bolt that they are much quieter than a Moser. If I could have waited I would have gone with the Strange rear.

What price are you guys getting your Strange 12 bolts for? Keep in mind I have, and plan to keep, my ABS and traction control. I want a fully built, strong as possible, 12 bolt rear.

Also how difficult are these to install? I plan on having it sent to my house and doing the install myself(with help of course) and need to know how difficult this will be. And any sites that might help me along the way.

Thanks for all your help guys.

I got my Strange from Tbyrne. It did take about 5 weeks to get it.The install is very easy.Unbolt old, install new.I had 2 people help me by they held the brakes and I slid out the old rear and put the Strange right back in.I think it took less than 2 hours to do.

Which one is the cheapest and how much is that? I need to upgrade mine and I dont plan to race it much. I have gutted about 3 stock rears so far and I want to make an upgrade if I can get one cheap enough.

I've heard you need a press for some part of the install. Something about an ABS component needs to be removed from the old 10 bolt and installed on the new rear. It might have been called an ABS exciter ring, but I'm not positive. Just trying to get all the info I can about the install and what it will take start to finish.

Thanks,
Mike B.

Go with the Strange if it uses the 2 bolt T/A mount like stock. I have a Moser and if I could do it again I would get the Strange.

It's one thing to spend a lot of money on something and then go around singing it's praises to make yourself feel better. but it shows a lot of integrity to to say here's what's the real deal is and try and help someone else out before they make a similar mistake. Thanks Justin.

Anyone care to tell me where's the best place or best way to get a deal on a Strange 12 Bolt? What is a good deal? Other than LS1Edit to reprogram for the gears, what else will I need to install when installing this rear? Suspension? Will my stock T/A and LCAs hold up? Or is this just something I should replace when it breaks?

Thanks Guys,
Mike

I have a Strange. I used POR 15 paint and then it bolted right in. It cost me about $2700 with a heavy duty posi unit and 33 spline street/track axles. The ABS sensor is already installed, you just have to cut your stock wires when removing the old rear end and sp <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" /> lice to the wires in the new rear end. If you have an aftermarket Torque Arm, you may have to trim the tabs that go to the rear end until the bolts line up. The axle tubes are the same diameter as the ten bolt so your sway bar bolts right on.

I have a Moser and if I had it to do over I would get a strange. Mine howls like a son of a ----- and I've lost 4 bolts total off of the torque arms mounts. Definitely go with Strange.

I have a Moser and it has been mostly enjoyable. The only thing is I would put locktight on the axle bolts. Other than that, I love it. Doesn't make a sound at all; (and I have 4.11's which are supposed to be loud) That just depends on how it was set up. I also got a very good price on it. I paid $2150 with 33 spline axles, hd posi, etc from PPO. This was about $300 less than the Strange that I priced with the same stuff in it. PPO is restructuring right now so you may not be able to get one, but if so, definately check them out. John is an awsome guy and will take care of you if anything goes wrong. I promise.
