Default gear option for strange 12 bolt 4 seies carrier

Can I go with 3.42's or 3.23's with a 4 series (I have 4.10's now)? Or do I need to buy a whole new rear end to drop down to a lower numerical gear?

You need to get a series-3 carrier to go anything lower than 3.73's. As it is, the 3.73's for a series-4 carrier are a special "thin cut" gear.

If anything, you'd have to swap out the differential, but I thought they made 3.73s at least for a 4 series carrier...I just don't know if their design would make them inherently noisy or not.

Yeah looks like 3.73's are the lowest I can do on a 4 series. So, I can swap it for a 3 series carrier?

There is nothing wrong with the 4.10's.
