All the time, or only at certain rpm's?
I'm getting a metal on metal spinning vibration at 5000rpm+ but no slippage.
Would like to know as much as possible before I tear it down. Am planning on new Slave, Clutch, PP, Fly, Pilot Bearing, etc... Would like to get it the first time I'm in there for sure..!
The Throw-out bearing is in the Slave, right?
What is this damn vibration/buzzing sound..? Coming from the bellhousing..

If you're putting in a new clutch you'll know soon enough if your pilot bearing is shot or not. I replaced my clutch last winter and my pilot bearing was almost disintegrated. I had to chisel it out too, what pain in the ***. At least it's not an expensive part. If you're changing the clutch replace the bearing whether it needs it or not. Save yourself some hassle down the road.

To answer your other question of what happens when the bearing wears down ... your input shaft goes into that bearing, the more it wears down the more play there will be for the input shaft ... which isn't a good thing.

Car doesnt shift quickly anymore if its an M6, sort of whine-like noise when clutch is enguaged, it goes away when you push the clutch in, BAD vibes on the highway, and you can get it to stop by pressing the clutch in and out fast- recentering the input shaft.

Mello - the throwout bearing is in between the slave, and the pressure plate fingers. I would certainly replace that. You should replace the pilot bearing also. I didn't on my recent swap, but the car only had 4000 miles on it.

Re: Pilot Bearing Failure Experiences?
Hi everyone.
Found my problem tonight.
Looks like I broke ANOTHER torque tube.
Going for #3 now.
Gonna do the clutch, pilot, slave, trans mount and will pop in the 3.90's at the same time.
Cripes, all I run are 335 street tires! This is the 2nd TQ Tube my Stage 3 Kevlar disc killed. Will see how the Ceramic does. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Throwout bearing comes in/with the Slave. Around $85-100. SPEC sold me an OEM pilot bearing for possibly as low as $5.oo I think. Gonna replace the tranny mount too. WTF.

Researched online. Didn't save the doc. The Slave includes a TO bearing and was confirmed by my mechanic. You can purchase a TO bearing separately from GM also, but it requires a complete disasembly of the Slave to re-install it. It's normally less to just buy the new slave with one inside.
