Default Used 12 bolt

I have a chance to pickup a used 12 bolt from another guy on another forum. I was thinking about doing gears in my 10 bolt but after comparing the price of them with the price of the 12 bolt I think the 12 bolt would be more logical.

Anyways, the 12 bolt is a moser with 3.90's, Eaton Posi, 33 spline axles, TA rear cover and is a 3 channel ABS. The guy told me it is around 3 years old with about 5,000 miles on it.

Would it be a good buy at 1800? I just don't want to put 1,000 dollars into my 10 bolt then have to rebuild it.

If your running 12's on a 10 bolt, I would suggest going to the 12 bolt. I'm in the same boat, but not running 12's

Don't take this wrong, but your not running 12's with heads, intake and a cc306? I would think you would be.

That's what I was thinking. I might see if he would come down a little on it. Also he has a custom made 3.5" drive shaft for the 12 bolt that he is going to throw in for 150 bucks. Or should I just keep my stock LS1 Aluminum one in?

I paid 1800 for my Strange 12 bolt and it only had 100 miles and 5 strip passes. Mine also had a billingsly anti roll bar welded on. Mine was 4.10s, cover and a spool.
I would try to get him down to 1600, he would probably go for it.

He won't budge. He said 1800 is his bottom dollar.

Buy it from him and I'll buy the TA cover from you for $100 plus my moser chrome cover. That will bring your final price to $1700.

1800 is still not a bad price.
Perhaps if you showed up with cold hard cash in your hand he could be persuaded. I heard he sold that Golen short block pretty cheap.

Yeah it was a great deal and I wish I could have been all over it. BUT, I just got hit with 1100 dollar worth of insurance for all three of my vehicles so I wasn't able to get it. I'm kinda bummed out about the whole deal.

3 years old with only 5k miles?... i'd bet that those were 5k very hard miles, you can probably expect the thing to whine pretty bad, but what 12 bolt doesn't whine!?

i think 1800 is not a bad price, and i'd go ahead and get him to throw in that drive shaft, you're going to need a 1350 conversion yolk anyway, you might as well get it and do it right the first time.

It depends what type of metal. If it is the chromoly super duty type, with the 1350 ujoints, then yes. They list for $300 new. Or you could wait until you shred the aluminum one , repair the car, and then replace it.
