Default Reverse a pain in the ***

I have a Hurst shiffter standerd when I bought the car new on an 2002 LS1, reverse is a pain in the ***, and the only solution is to put it in first and then reverse. I know a couple of other guys have the same problem. Not really a problem, just an annoynce, and I've had it since the day I bought it off the lot. Any ideas or any advice, I'm open

Do you have and adjustable master cylinder? A guy i know had a car that would grind when he tried to put it in reverse. We jacked up the axle to see if the rear wheels turned when the car was in gear and the clutch pedal was pushed in, and they did. The clutch wasn't disengaging all the way, causing the synchros to grind when shifting into 1st or reverse from a stop. We just adjusted the clutch and it fixed it.

The reason you have to put it in 1st then Reverse is to synchronize the shafts.

I have to do it in my 79 vette, my bros 5spd 6 banger and in my 00 T/A.

My car grinds sometimes when i try to put it in reverse. I will try going into 1st then to reverse and see if that works. If not im going to pull the tranny and have it looked at.

Thanks for the help, I guess I'l just keep putting it in first and then reverse, but I know what you were talking about when it grinds, my 1987 Ford Escort(everyone needs a beater) always does that when I put it in reverse.

Don't confuse a non-synchronized clash - like the older transmissions mentioned above - with a nin releasing clutch clash shift. The T56 does have a synchronized reverse If it clashes when you shift( veh. staopped) your clutch is not releasing. The clash in that old 6 banger and that Escort is due to a non-synchronized reverse transmission. There you will have to wait for the clutch to spin down after depressing before you shift - if you want no clashing.

I'm having a problem with my shifter(power tower) wont go over enough to get into reverse. It almost seems as if the reverse lockout is activated. I have to push with both hands to get it over into the area to put it in reverse. Just put in a Mcleod RevlokII with adjustable master. Last nite when i put it in no problems at all with going into reverse. Used reverse like 5 times till today went to leave went in fine. Go to the store and all of a sudden i couldn't get hte car in reverse. Played with it and finally shoved it in. No grinding or anything. Got home tried again and still can't get the car into reverse easily. Doing the 1st to reverse deal and still wont go over enough to even get in. Whats the deal here?????????????????? HELP ASAP!!!!

I had a similar situation to this and I posted about it a while back. My car had been fine since I picked it up new. I put it on the dyno and some high speed runs on the dyno and it got really tough to get it in reverse. I had to use my knee to give it that added little kick in reverse. I put a new cam in and the reverse problem resolved itself. Strangest thing...

Check the connection on the reverse lockout solenoid. Make suer you have power and ground on that connector. It could be corrosion in the connector or a bad ground (broken wire, etc) that is causing an intermittent lockout problem (not tripping the solenoid to open up reverse).

Just my thoughts.
