Default What brand gears?

I have a 98 ss with a m6 and am going to be getting some 4:10 gears. Im not sure what brand to get. I want to get a kit that includes everything. I am also going to get the T/A girdle. Are GM gears stronger than the aftermarket? Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks,

SWEET98SS

I just did exactly what you want to do. I went to Thunder Racing ----> and ordered their rear kit that comes with everything including the girdle. I choose the motive gears. Some people claim the after market gears like Richmond are a lot noiser the OEM brand. The biggest tip i can offer is that no matter what brand you go with make sure a reputable shop installs them.

Don't waste your time, buy a set of origional GM gears. I had the GM Motives and a set of US Gear and both whined. The GM's are totally quiet.

I have 373 Motive Performance Gears. There are two types of Motives: Regular Motives- They have a picture of a 4 wheel drive truck on the box. Second, you have Motive Performance- These come in a red and yellow box. They are a designed different to reduce noise and to be stronger. Mine make no noise what so ever! My .02 AZ28DRIVER makes a good point, spend the time/ maybe a little more money and find a good shop.

If you want quiet, get the factory GM gear. If you want strong, get an aftermarket. No such thing as strong AND quiet. Aftermarket gears have a higher nickel content in the alloy, which causes more noise, but makes them stronger.
