it should not be that difficult, just don't cut any corners when it comes to the measuring and having the right tools. other than that just read up on it, all I could reccomend is do not cut corners on tools

I would recemmend taking it to a rear end shop of some sort to do it. Gears are touchy. My friends dad has been doing gears for 25 years. He says you have to be very precise and know what you're doing. Or, if you have a friend that maybe has some experience on rear ends, have him help you. If you don't get things set up just perfectly your gears will whine and you could shim the gears. Just be careful.

Its tough to line them up precisely. I would take it to a pro if youve never done them or been around for one. Something you dont really want to screw up.

You don't learn anything by doing it this way. IMO if you're going to be into cars/racing, knowing how to set up a rear end is a valuable piece of knowledge to have. but....
Or, if you have a friend that maybe has some experience on rear ends, have him help you. If you don't get things set up just perfectly your gears will whine and you could shim the gears. Just be careful.
^^^This is the best thing you could do. The downside is not everyone has a buddy who knows how to set up gears though. I'd say if you don't have anyone that knows how to do this, and you're interested in learning how to do it, as well as somewhat mechanically inclined, I say go for it. Read up online, get yourself a few books on it, and have at it. Before I get a 9" I'm going to put some gears in my 10 bolt just to get some experience and see how I do.

Tough call. I've done a few. Dana 30's, 35's; GM 8.2, 7.5/7.625, 8.5, 10.5; ford 8.8.
For some reason the 8.8's are always easy. But when I did my camaro rear it was the worst ever it just would not set up right. Took me about 12 hours on and off.

What you're going to find most difficult is judging whether or not the contact pattern is correct. Sometimes it's perfect on one side and no where close on the other (drive vs coast sides). Then you have to figure out what to change to make it right.
Be sure you write everything down as far as shim size, locations, notes on what the pattern looked like with that shim set up, etc. The judgement part is the most difficult, nothing you read will teach you that.
