Build sheet and Door jam codes for gears
I bought my 99 Z-28 used and it didnt come with a buildsheet and half the emblem in the drivers side door jam is missing. Jus so happens it the half with the gear code on it. I know what the codes are for gears.
Can I go to the dealer and see what kinda gears it has by giving them the VIN?
Input?

Did you check the glove box too? Sometimes you can find the information there as well. What type of trans do you have? If it is an Auto then you have either 2.73 or 3.23. If it is a manual then you have 3.42.

Re: Build sheet and Door jam codes for gears
I guess you could put a chalk mark on the driveshaft and the rearend, then count the rotations of the tire to get 1 driveshaft revolution. If it is under three revolutions, then it is 2.73. If it is over 3, then it is 3.23.

991LE gave you the key, look at your drive shaft, is it all rusty? if it is, it is a "steel" unit, that comes with the stock 2.73 gears. If your drive shaft has no rust on it, it is probably a "aluminum" unit which comes with the "performance" rear option 3.23's.
Hope this helps you out in some way.
