Default Is it worth it

I have a basicly stock 01 T/A check sig. Have a connection to a free 3.73 or 3.42 gear which ever I choose. I have a 3.23 now will I see any gain with out doing anything else to the car? If so how much with the 3.42 and then the 3.73? TIA

Either the 3.42 or 3.73 will help your ET. The 3.73 will probably help more. How much is hard to say. It depends on how well you launch. I've seen cars knock off as much as .4 with a similar gear swap.

If it's an A4 (you didn't say) I'd stay with the stock gear. Just get a good converter.

Sorry Colonel it is an A4 the only reason I was thinking about it was it was free! Saving for a converter as we speak.

Split with Colonel, get the convertor and get the gears, I would go with the 3.73's unless it is your daily driver/commutor then for a compromise of fuel economy and performance the 3.42's. Good-luck. If you can get both you could always e mail me a good price on the other set and make a few bucks .

Nothing wrong with a healthy gear ratio (I used to run 3.73s in the stock rearend) but there are some benefits of the stock gearing. It's quiet and stronger than numerically higher gears.

The benefits of better gearing once a strong converter is installed are much less than many would think.

Just things to consider.

whats up
i have a 99 ta and i had the stock 3.23s in them. its an A4. i got the 3.73 gears and it helped a lot. i went from a consistent 11.5-11.8 in the 1000ft with just free mods to a consistent 11.0 to 11.2 in the 1000ft.
