M6 with 4.30 gears?

I know the norm is 4.10 for a gear swap in an M6 car, but I've seen a few people running 4.30's. Is that too much gear for the average heads/cam car? My shift point is 6600 with the limiter at 7000, it seems to me like it would take some damn fast shifting to make it work, but would it give noticable gains? I'm just throwing around ideas so I can decide what to go with when I upgrade the rearend.

I went with 4:30`s with an M6 12 Moser 12 bolt. Should still be able to spray it. Diffinatly gonna have to drive it. Every one I have evr talked to that has 4:10`s wished they would have done 4:30`s.

What MPH do you run at the track? What size tire?

To maximize performance, of course you want to choose the gear that allows you to come through the traps as high in your powerband in fourth gear as possible.

For my cammed & sprayed Camaro, 4.11 was the proper ratio selection.

Had 3.90's in my 10 bolt. Went to 4.30's in my new 9" Almost done with the install. I'll keep ya posted.

For my cammed and sprayed TA, 4.30s would have been optimal because I went to a 28" tall tire

Find your target MPH, go the gear calculator and find out what gear ratio will leave you on redline in 4th at that mph with your tires, and there you have your optimal gear ratio

Sweet! Thanks for the feedback guys. I haven't run the new combo yet (just got it back Friday) but maybe I can get it to the track soon to find out my trap speed. And I will most likely be running 315/35/17's drag radials that I have now.
