Holy &*%& Moser!?!??!?!?! I ordered my Moser 12 bolt with 4:11s in it a few months back. Well I finally get the motor in blah blah blah and I decide to step up to 4:56s with the combo Im running. I drop the car today to have the gears installed. Get a call 30 mins later asking me to come by the shop. Moser had ZERO backlash on my rear. The wear pattern on the ring gear is ALL the way down the tooth and bottoms out at the end. Bearings are shot after ONLY 200 miles from heat I assume. I know I should have checked the wear pattern before installing it in my car, Im not bashing, just giving a heads up to others out there ordering a 12 bolt or any other rear for that matter. Im glad I caught this when I did. I know rears need to be set up tight for drag racing applications, but I didnt know it needed to be so tight it took 3 guys with pry bars to get the carrier out of the housing?!?!??!?
Time to head back to the dyno to see if the overly tight gear was costing me any power

Re: Holy &*%& Moser!?!??!?!?! Moser cannot setup a rear correctly. My advice, get the Moser unassembled and have a knowledgeable person set it up. Saves you mucho time in the end!

Verdad Gallardo Re: Holy &*%& Moser!?!??!?!?! Oh yeah, have your installer PLEASE check your caerrier bearing bores and carrier races to make sure they weren't spun in the housing. That's bad news. The carrier bearing caps and bores should have a nice crosshatch pattern, similar to what you'd see in a freshly honed cylinder wall. If you see dark black lines, pitting, scalded races then the carrier bores are now out of round. Have that repaired ASAP or you'll spin carrier bearing after carrier bearing and eventually you'll ruin the housing.
