Default Axle twist question

How much do you let your axles twist before your replace them?

Does anyone swap sides and twist them back these days?

FWIW, this is a bottom 10's car. I can't believe it is twisting the axles. But then it stripped a new Strange 4.88 gearset on the fourth launch.

I would say it's time for a set of 35 spline axles. I am guessing you are running a 12bolt with 30 spline axles.

LOL! Moser 12 bolt with Moser axles, which I thought were more than 30 spline, but don't recall and am not at home. At this point I would prefer a 9", but new axles are a hell of a lot cheaper than a whole new rear end, even if I had to buy a new spool to get finer splined axles.

But you are in the business - how much twist before I scrap the axles?

Don't know, every thing relies on how the shaft was produced. You can get 35 spline axles and a spool for your 12 bolt now. I have cars running high 8's and pro gears when they run that fast.

Aha! I think forged metal gets more brittle after it has been perm. distorted. So it is only a matter of time for the hardened metal to fail.

What kind of power/times are you running to twist 35 spline axles?

Default 12's and twisting???

Please let me know what kind of axles you have so I can stay clear of them...lol

I tested stock gm axles 30 spline 8.5 s-10 rear to 11.30's so far pulling the fronts and 1.48 60 foots and not a thing bent twisted etc for 5 years now. This is not a super fast car but...we just stick in diffs under tester vehicles and beat the crap out of them to see what GM is putting out in vehicles these days.

You sure you did not get a defective set??? I would call your manufacturer on that. Jim

I would replace a twisted axle as soon as I see it is twisted.

You can put 35 spline axles in a 12 bolt but I hear the bearing area is thin and isn't that great of an idea.

I ran 33 spline axles and a spool in a nitrous assisted car in the 9.30 range and never had a problem, although I had pro gears and strange axles.
