Default In search of new tranny

Well I nuked my tranny again Going shopping for another and these are the three top contenders:

High Performance Associates

FLP Level 4

Speed Stage 3

Please give me your opinions on the three. If you have one, please let me know how much torque you are putting through it?

TIA.

You may want to call Mike Kurtz at Century Transmission outside Houston,TX @ 281.633.8155. He's been building bulletproof trannys for Buick GN's for 15 years and he also builds alcohol dragster trannys for the guys who run at Houston Raceway Park, the fastest dragstrip in the nation.

He was showing me the differences in stock tranny parts and his HD parts; they're very impressive. Also, he does his own R&D so you may learn something from speaking to Mike. I just had him put in a TransGo shift kit (I really had to have a tuner's work redone) and it's great.

I would go with the speed Inc. tranny, I know of a good amount of people running them who have had good success...

They will stand behind their work too..

ls1290,

TCI is a good tranny too. We could build a tranny for you. How much HP/TQ do you have and how much street/strip will the tranny see? Please, feel free to call at 1-662-224-8972.

With just the motor, I am making 440ish rwhp and 430ish rwtq. With a 300hp shot of nitrous, I am making 720ish rwhp and 790ish rwtq. The car is a weekend warrior/strip car, so most of its action will be under 'extrieme' conditions

Couple of weeks ago, I visited Carl Rossler's shop and talked with him for a while (www.rosslertrans.com). This man really knows trannys. He built the 4L60E for the Lingenfelter 9-second, twin turbo car. Even he admits that there is only so much you can do with a 4L60E. He says they can be built, but long-term reliability will always be an issue. He will recommend a TH400 build-up for long-term abuse any day over a 4L60E.

What I am saying is that if you pay for a 4L60E buildup that is gonna cost you big bucks, don't get the impression that it is bullet-proof. it will still have weaknesses. If you are thinking of hard-core racing and lots of abuse, a TH350 or TH400 is the only way to go.

Unfortunately for now, one can only stuff a 4L60E in the rear of a C5. I know it will not be bulletproof, but I would like most of the internals to hold. I would be fine with having to replace clutch packs once a season/year.

Given that, if you rebuild the tranny with all 'good' internals and keep the fluid cool with a deeper pan and trans cooler, should most of the internals hold up 700+ rwtq?

FLP level iv here and love it. Been in the car over 2 years and no telling hom many passes. Probably near 50 low 11's-10 second passes on n2o through the shifts and hundreds of mid 11-12 second motor passes. It is out for a freshening now (pulled it last night). I can't complain at all and Chuck is great to deal with.
