Default Transmission Yoke Engagement

I am building a custom LS1 T56 powered car and will be using a camaro driveshaft. How far does the slip yoke need to slide into the trans? I have read on here that the guys who are running 12 bolts have a problem with the yoke going in too far. The car has an independent rear suspension, so the shaft will slide very little. Because of this, I would like to install it in the middle of the acceptable range for shaft engagement. Just out of curiosity, on live axle cars, how much does the shaft move in/out through the full range of suspension movement?
