Default genuine gm ring and pinion

Were can I find a genuine gm ring and pinion. I tried the local Chevy dealer, but they said the highest size they can get is a 3.42 for my 99 camaro Z28. I would like a 4.10. Do I have to ask for a 4.10 gear from a different vechile that will fit my rear end? If so what car or truck.
Thanks Bob

The original equipment Superior 4.10's I bought from T Byrne were even marked with the GM part number. They're as quiet as stock (I was very careful to set all specs per the factory). My recommendation - buy these and save a couple of hundred bucks. BTW - the dealer can get 4.10's, I checked.

Genuine GM gears, 3.73, 4.10 for 7.5 ring gear. Think they're listed under S-10 blazer & pickup rear axles. WJ.

Be careful... I bought "GM Motives" and whines like a little girl after 2 hard launches. Sent them back and my rear end guy got me a set of OEM GM 3.73's. They are not cheap. Lots of hard launches and still whisper quiet. I seriously doubt that Superior are OEM GM gears.

That's what I have to go on - I still recommend them. They're also $200 cheaper than the GM boxed price I got from one of this board very competitive dealers.

All I am saying is be careful. There is a reason that they are $200 cheaper. They may not have met GM tight specs. I learned the hard way. No way I would buy a set of gears unles the box said Genuine GM.

I got about 65 passes (1/4 mi) and about 6000 mi on my Superior 4.10's before they needed to be pulled out & replaced. I don't know if Genuine GM gears would've given longer service, or not. I ran M&H 305-30x16's at the track & held my launches to 3500 and lower... ('99 M6 SS) The 10 bolt lived for 3 yrs. I then removed the 4.10's, put back the 3.42 stock GM gears---which by the way, whined from the day I took delivery on the car. The 4.10 Superiors were pretty "sharp" upon inspection after removing them, and I don't believe they would've lived much longer. I feel the axles are even weaker than the stock ring & pinion gears. I have the Moser aftermarket c-clip axles to install in the '02 A4 car. They're supposed to be 35-40% stronger than the GM stockers--we'll see. Anyway, many people on this board think the GENUINE GM gears are better than the "GM aftermarket" gearsets. GM supposedly uses more than one ring & pinion supplier, and do they reject some of the gears for hardness & tolerance spec reasons? Are their rejects boxed up and sold by these suppliers? Who knows???? WJ.

M6's punish a rear end. I have an A4 which helps a lot but I made at least 70-80 passes if not more last year pulling 1.60 60' times on ET Streets and is still quite. I made over 100 runs on my stock 3.23's and were quiet when I took them out. It is all personal prefernce but who wants to change gears every 65 passes. Like I said before, the Motives were done in two launches and I am still running the GM 3.73's. We will see how they hold up this season with a H/C setup and a 4400 converter on ET Drags.

The GM 3.73 and 4.10 part numbers can be found in the GM Performance Parts catalog. Your dealer should have one. They are the ones listed for the 7.5 and 7.625 inch rear ends. I've posted the numbers here before, but I don't have them with me at the moment.

Try www.tomsdifferentials.com . They sell factory gear sets for much less than your dealer. I work in parts at a GM dealer and we buy our gear sets from him. Great prices on axles and other diff parts also!

Mike, when you buy ring & pinion sets from Tom's, do they show up in GM packaging? That is GENUINE GM PARTS marked boxes? Thanks. WJ.

“Genuine GM” gears from Tom’s come in an American Axle and Manufacturing (AAM) box. AAM is probably one of several suppliers. Superior gears from Tom’s come in a United States Gear Corporation (US Gear) box.

I have been very happy with Tom's prices and speedy service.
