Default Whats the difference??

Rear ends:

can anyone tell me the difference between the 12 bolt and the 9 inch?

whats the advantages/disadvantages of each

Which is better for me, who would run at the track 3-4 times a month but wants to be able to also be streetable.

1) 12 bolt is ligher than the 9", both add weight, 30 lbs for the 12 bolt and 50 lbs for the 9".

2) 9" is easier to work on.

I'd get a 12 bolt.

3) 9" is the only rearend I would use for a 9 second car.

4) Moser 9" tq arm bracket is off center and could be designed better.

12 bolt swap is pretty easy. 9" can be a challenge.

I would get the 12 bolt, it pretty much bolts right in with some driveshaft manipulation, and it doesn't have as much parasitic loss as the 9 inch.

Also if I'm not mistaken with a 9 inch (at least the ones I've seen) you lose your TCS, and ABS. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

12 bolt is more effecient, it takes less power to turn one....that means more power (about 3%) to the wheels (and 12 bolt will likley run slightly cooler)....Have fun!

I kept my ABS and TCS with my Moser 9 inch. I chose the 9 inch due to lack of a reliable center section in the 12 bolt. With the 12 bolt, it's either a posi, or a spool. I run a locker in mine, which is rated at 1300hp. I can also go posi or spool if I wanted. Total weight for mine is 178 lbs. I measured the stocker at 145lbs. I don't see how the 12 bolt is easier to install either. They just bolt right up.
