Default Auburn 542040 unit and my rear end

Ok so I am rebuilding my car completely. Now I have 3.73s in the rear right now and they seem to be fine but for assurance i am rebuilding the WHOLE thing this time around.

Now my question is.... My rear end is a 2 series rear end. The auburn unit I am going to get is a 3 series and the 3.73s I am getting are 3 series. Is there anything else I need to complete this other than the obvious install kit? Basically will the 3 series carrier and gears fit without trouble in the housing?

If you purchased the gears, 3 series positraction, and install kit you should be fine. If you have any questions let me know.

Thanks, Jeff

good deal then. I have rebilt the rear end myself once (i guess my diploma in auto tech. helped in some way lol) but I used richmond gears and the stock diff. and i hated the richmonds. this time it is getting completely redone along with new axles and all.

Thanks Jaws.
