Default 3.73 gears/carrier size problem?

I have a 2000 ws6 ram air Trans Am Convertible and I have run into a problem with replacing the gears. I purchased a predator (to program speedo., etc. after the changeover from current 3.23 gears), only to be told by a local shop, that they can't put 3.73 gears on (even aftermarket type) due to my 7.75 carrier size. I don't have any idea what they are talking about, and am picking it up and bringing it to another shop for a 2nd opinion. My question is, has anyone run into any trouble due to carrier size regarding changing the gears? I am rather naive, as I thought all 7.5 10 bolt rear ends were appx. the same-apparently I was wrong. I hope the shop is wrong, and it can be done, but although 7.5 or 7.65 carriers don't appear to present a problem, the 7.75 configuration apparently does. HELP!

Well the first thing I'd do is call the place where you bought them, hopefully a site sponsor. One thing they all make a priority is sales support & info. Make sure you have the right part # for the gears that will fit you series 3 carrier!!!

May have just ordered a wrong set?
