Default 3.73 GEARS/7.75 CARRIER?

Help! I'm not sure why my prior post doesn't show, but I'll try it again: Has anyone had a problem with changing to 3.73 gears (aftermarket, of course) from 3.23 (2000 trans am ws6 auto. trans) due to 7.75 carrier? I'm not exactly sure what it means, but a rear end shop I took mine to doesn't seem to think it can be done. Any suggestions? I find it difficult to believe it can't be done. Thanks, -Livo-

no there should be no problem
your carrier is not made for 7.75(7 3/4)inch gears it is made for 7 1/2 or 7 5/8 inch they are interchangable

the gears you have in your car right now are 7 5/8 inch and you can use 7 1/2 inch gears with no problem but the 7 5/8s are a little stronger

only problems seen with gear swaps are when you go to a 4.11 or higher gear in which case you need to do some modding

Thanks for the reply. I also received some emails that confirm your statement. I am taking it to another shop later this month. I'm looking forward to 3.73 gears, as the 3.23's are a bit too "long legged" for my taste. -Livo-
