Going with 4.10s and a TP4400 :) Am I stupid?
I have finally decided to go with a TP4400 and 4.10 gear in my cammed 98 A4 Trans Am. My shift points are going to be 6600 RPMs. Im really wanting something thats going to launch HARD out of the hole and something that is really going to do some damage from a roll. I do drive the car quite a bit but I have a lot of tolerance as long as it comes with good results
Are any of you guys running 4.10s with your TP4400 or equivelant converter? How do you like this setup? How does your car perform from a roll and a stop?
Do you think that running 315/35/17 nittos on the back of 17X11 ZR-1s will be enough to keep the car hooking decently (notice I said decently not completely) on the street. My car is just boltons, longtubes, and soon to be installed TR224 Cam. Ill be using ET Street or Drags at the track so Im not worried about the track..
Any information is greatly appreciated

I can't hook for **** on the street with 315 Nitto DRs just with a ST3500 and longtubes!!
You will have big problems on the street. I only have 3.23 gears too.
I too will be going with a TP4400 in the future, but I am sticking with 3.73s. People have good results with this combo too.

Well so far my car hooks very well. I currently have a ST3500, 3.23 gear, boltons, and longtubes. I have nittos 245/50/16 and when properly heated they dont spin at all from a stop. They just throw your head back and go...
From a roll or at the track it will be an awesome combo! Launching on the street will be a different story, good luck! My PT4400 and 4.30 gear are useless until around 40 mph.

It depends on your application. If it is a daily driver I would say this would be a waste. I have driven a 3.73 car with a YPT4000 and first gear was useless.
If the car is strictly for track this combo will be great and will give you pleanty of power, if you can get it to hook that is.

It's all in the driver. If you are throttle crazy.. you will go through a set of tires a month. If you "learn" how much to pedal it, it can be fun. Running the UT-4600 (2.9+ STR) on 315 Nitto's taught me alot about throttle control. I got good enough that I was able to run a 1.59 60ft on the full street setup... pedaling my azz off
Sounds like it could be an interesting combo
I think Ill try it, if I dont like it I can always go down to the 3.73, but I think Ill like it...
How much difference from a roll would there be between the 3.73 and 4.10?
Thanks for all the info guys...

BIGBOS - does your friend like his setup? Does he drive it on the street? I think it will be fun and interesting to say the least from what Ive heard
i have 4.10s and an st-4000 and if you just flash the convertor on the street, ofcourse you will blow the tires away. but i have nittos and with the right pedal effort, you will spin slightly and then hook pretty well on teh street. half throttle...hook.....hammer it!
also, 4.10s from a roll kick azz!

You wont be disappointed. Just get your dragradials hot and practice a few times. You'll find the car will still sixty foot great with you 'rolling into it.' But there is no replacement for slicks and flat footing it!
Thanks for all the posts guys You guys have really helped me out with some doughts and other thoughts I had about the setup
I can't wait to get everything in and installed

I will have this setup in the car in the next 2 weeks. Right now the tranny is being rebuilt and installing a TCS 4200 converter. I put the 4.10s in the week before i had the tranny rebuilt and can't give you WOT feelings because the sprag was busted in the tranny and would only shift manualy. Maybe i can find out soon with a visit to the track.
