Default 9 inch assembly specs... Sponsor help?

Hey guys... Putting my 9 inch together... Can someone give me the specs needed to put this together (i.e. the pinion depth so I know what shims to run) and or any other specs I'll need. I have the backlash 8-11 thousandths... but you can't just go off that. Maybe theres a website for 9 inch that may be helpful?

follow the directions that came with your gearset... there is no set pinion depth or shim to run. machining tolerances and techniques during manufacture of the cases and gears affect the shim thickness required. theres a lot to doing gears that just goes with experience. you may be better off in the long run to have a professional shop set it up for you. good luck!

Erik... my gearset didn't come with this specification. My dad (who has built numerous rearends) is setting it up. I guess I'll just do some searching online.

.008 to .010 is usually the number for backlash settings, but the shim required for proper pinion depth is never a particular number. i'd say start with a .020 and see where it goes from there.
