DIY 12 bolt
for the ABS, you have a sensor in the center section, im not sure what it takes to keep that.
Most other parts (non abs) can be transfered off a stock donor rearend
Ryan.
that aside, if youre set on it, go for it man. and good luck.
As far as the torque arm goes, I personally don't think welding a mount to the cast housing will be strong enough. If it were, Moser / Strange wouldn't have wasted big $$ developing a custom cast housing for their 12 bolts.

moser and strange start with new casting- they can just have cast in right away.
since the impala housing are much wider, they would have to be cut down and rewelded anyways
here is another idea for a donor- the 8.5 out of a 4.3 HO 5 speed s10. i wonder if thye ABS is set up in one of those trucks like a f-body. i haven't gotten to a yard to measure one, 4x2 or 4X4, look close. an 8.5 10 bolt isn't that much weaker than a stock 12 bolt. they use the same axles and pinions stock

I remember being told about an 8.5" 10 bolt that came in GM trucks. Would the wheel base be the same?
