Default Testimony For Spool On The Street

I know alot of you have been debating wether or not to go with a spool on the street. I got my 9" buttoned up on Sat. night, and my thoughts so far are these:

--Tire wear will be of concern, I can already see the effects of the tire scrub, but it is only due to lots of in town driving. (Turns)

--Highway and curvy roads run fine, even when wet in my opinion

--Making sharp turns is not "hard to do", it just feels like you are dragging a tire...because you are. The best way I can describe it, is when you turn sharp, the steering wheel wants to straighten itself out if you let go of it, a slight pull, but nothing too bothersome.

--Conclusion: If you want it to feel like stock go with a TrueTrac, if you dont mind feeling that the car isnt stock, a spool wont bother you probably.

** I know this isnt news to many of you, and in fact it is only "my" opinion, but I wanted to see a description like this when I was pondering a spool. Hope this helps**

-Thats sort of a tough question. I mean, sure I would like to not have the tire scrub, but if I was to do it all over, I would still save the money and go with a spool.
- The only time I ever really know its there is when I back out of a parking spot, or make a sharp turn. But its not like you have to "negotiate" intersections.
- I like knowing that no matter what my top power number ends up being down the road, I dont need to worry about my posi giving out.

I will testify to seeing a 31 spline Truetrac live in a 3600lb F-body leaving off of a trans brake and running low 9's and the car was straight as an arrow going down the track.

Yea I have heard great things about Truetracs....but I have heard of them failing too. My choice was due more to money than anything. Just letting people know what I think of the spool.

Right on this doesn't sound so bad at all. Great thread, this is what I like to see since I am in this predicament myself right now. Say, what did you end up doing as a result of your ABS light on?

You can even parallel park in a tight spot with a spool once you get use to it, I tried it just to see if it could be done. Bob

Does that count by spinning the tires and sliding the rear in?

No, lol. You just have to be farther away from the car that you pull up next to when you begin backing and cutting in. Bob

I love my spool too, it isnt for everyone. I would have gone Tru trac, but for me I think about things like this, We all have heard the my tru trac went into the 9's blah blah. My only thing is HOW LONG will it last launching hard like that. My rear from Scott@drivline has about 5000mi on it and over 40 track passes on it running on ET streets and dumping the clutch at 5k+. A tru track might last that long, but I am sure that my 35 slpine axels and spool will last much longer. I only have a slight whine on decel, it is quieter than my 10 bolt EVER was.

I had 33x16.5's in a 114.5" wheel base nova, it was a bitch to make a u-turn, I had to 3 point turn it, besides that I love spools, never had a failure.

I drove my spooled camaro to Arizona, I drove over 600 miles and it was raining most of the night, needless to say I made it there and back over 1200 miles, alive

I love my spool too! U-turns are a little different, but it doesn't even chirp the tires around a tight turn with my M/T dr's (softer compound). I'm trying to talk my friend into putting a spool in his Strange 12 bolt (his posi is broke).
