Upcoming Mods: 408(Short block completed), L92 ported heads, GMPP Intake completed for summer. 76GTS turbo but the turbo install will not be finished until end of summer at best.
Just my opinion...but if you are planning all that power. Try to wait it out for a 12bolt or 9" etc. Even if you wait to find a good deal on a used one.

I would look into a Detroit Locker if you are looking to be fully locked and drive on the streets.

Mini spools are not street legal! If you were to get into or cause an accident you would be sued and the company that supplied you the poduct could be held responsible as well.

You should just stay stock with GM OEM replacement parts to be on the safe side.

I do not think there is a law on the or any books stating that spools are illegale for street use. But give a lawyer an excusse to blame you for something to make him money, I am sure he would. The reason that most spool manufactures say not for street use is mainly for their protection. Not that a spool will make you loose control, what it will do is it locks both the left and right tires together with no way that either can out run the other. Going around a turn, the outside tire has to travel more distance then the inside tire, which means it has to outrun the other. A spool will not let this hapin. SO there is alot of stress put on the tires, and the drive train. Stopping at a light and making a sharp turn might require some extra exceleration causing the tires to spin or at least cherp. Thats when the law will step in and acuse you of recless driving and ticket you. When you explain to him about the need to do that to turn because of the spool, he will not care and just give you the ticket. I for one am not worried about the law and tickets. I live in a small town and know most of them, of whom love cars, and will give me a pass.

If you've never driven a car with a spool you might be in for a few surprises.
It does lock the rear wheels together, this makes the car want to go straight around corners, if theres sand or anything in the road and the front tires slip you could lose it.
It also places a lot of stress on the axles, they are going to have a back and fourth twisting on them that will weaken them to some degree.
A mini spool inside a stock diff case puts stress on the case under hard acceleration, a full spool requires c-clip eliminators.
Just another way to torture the weak stock rear IMO.
