LOL, interesting idea. Undertake an extensive fabrication project to install an IRS that would give the F-body about the only rear axle setup out there that is weaker than the 10-bolt. Venture to the Caddilac CTS-V section and feast your eyes on the nightmare those guys n gals are enduring with the diff on those things.
Not a stupid idea, just kinda unresearched.

Not likely to see a net positive return on your time/money investment into an IRS for a straightliner.
A properly tuned 4th gen rear suspension is extremely capable at a road course or autox. It would come down to how much time and money you are willing to spend to be different. The lion's share of your efforts would be spent in getting it back to the level of a properly tweaked F-body solid axle setup.
The question becomes...do you want to go thru a great deal of fabrication, installation, and tuning of an IRS to achieve what can be done with the existing suspension? I'm pretty sure that, once someone successfully gets the thing installed and tuned, it could be made to outperform the solid axle torque arm panhard rod F body setup. The road between here and there is quite long and involved though.
Do another search on here, you will find an example of a member who has installed a (IIRC) C4 IRS.
