Carbon fiber is pretty strong stuff and lite.$585 is better than the almost $800 Ive seen in the past.Still a bit pricey for me though.

Keep note of the fiber weave. I cant see well enough in the pics to tell you what weave they use. ACPT uses a special weave from what I know. Ill ask them about it

Also, find out how the yoke joints are affixed to the carbon fiber shaft itself. Is it glued? Thanks

I was told by every driveshaft company to stay away from carbon fiber due to the fact that it would eventually come apart at the yoke. Of course I have over 400 at the wheels and plan on doing some high rpm launches in the future. They did say that they are well suited for road racing.

I think they have pretty much resolved the glue issue. ACPT dirve shafts have been used in garbage trucks withstanding tons of abuse. If I recall it details some of this on teir homepage.

This page might be useful:

http://www.acpt.com/driveshaft/driveshafts.html

I have talked to a few people using them and they have had absolutely no difficulty. There was one post a few weeks ago where someone picked up 7rwhp same day dyno. I was planning on a ACPT unit but was wating for the price to come down a bit. I am going to consider the unit posted on this page as well.

I would be interested in this but how will it handle 5k dumps on ET Drags with close to 500rwtq. This would be my main concern and would it snap on me or what.

I'm all about saving weight and gaining some power

Let me know what he says about high HP set ups and people running NOS and such

The ACPT driveshafts are 9.6, and 12 aluminum stock.

thats the shaft with u-joint....i am not sure about acpt....do they add in the u-joint? this is new to me also ive been real busy these past few days so i havent had the opportunity to call..also when i do call ill post the tech stuff. if it sounds good im going to see if we can get a discount on 4 or more units.id like to know before i look like an *** if anyone else is seriously interested? i like the idea more for a saftey stance....i dont drive like an *** with them but my children ride with me often and sometimes if the situation is right they like the 0-55 punch. and since hearing of driveshafts going on our vehicles...thats not an option for me.(im getting some sticky tires )let me know and ill let you know so than we all know and..and..ah sh*t!!!!!! hate when that happens!!

ok. i put a phone call in they will be calling me back. i did some more in depth reading at their site. according to my email i was quoted for the critical link version at 12 pounds. at their site there is an upgrade for that.a race version of the critical link. this is supposed to be 3 lbs. LIGHTER!. so that would put the weight at 9 lbs flat. ill find out more when they call me, such as the cost, hp, and torque ratings. the weight is saved in the ujoint and slip yoke so i cant see the cost being to much higher but well see! ill keep you posted!

Some of ya'll have already hit on my main concern with a CF driveshaft- shock loads. I'm sure that they are plenty strong when torque is applied in a smooth, linear fashion, but a 4500-5000 RPM clutch dump while on slicks is hardly a smooth application of stress.

The additional RWHP would be nice, but my main reasons for looking into a CF shaft are because I will end up with an aftermarket shaft anyhow (since I want bigger U-joints); add in CF's supposed ability to reduce driveline vibrations, and you have a winner.

But, like I said, my main concern is the ability of the shaft to handle high shock loads; it isn't as though I am a regular at the drag strip, but I'd like to head out there with a set of borrowed slicks on the car to see what it'll do- and I'd rather not frag a $500-$800 CF driveshaft when I do it.

Additionally, does anyone know about the long term durability of these shafts?? For instance, are they adveresely affected by oil, dirt, etc... let's face it; all manners of crap gets kicked up under the bottom of our cars, and if it's one of those situations where a little road tar or something is going to cause the CF weave to start to loosen, it'd be nice to know about it.

I make small FRP(fiber reinforced plastics-i.e carbon fiber,carbon kevlar,fiberglass,etc.) parts as a hobby.
This information is general and applies to most types of "carbon fiber"

Carbon fiber has damping characteristics and should hold up better to "shock loading" than aluminum will.

Oil,dirt etc. will not affect carbon fiber or the resin that bonds it. It is unaffected by most checmicals that will normally come in contact with a driveshaft. You are however going to have problems if you drive through a puddle of MEKP.

If manufactured correctly the weave will not be directly exposed to the elements. There will be a layer of resin laying over the carbon weave itself.

If a carbon fiber driveshaft were to break it will pretty much "disintegrate".A boom and then a cloud of carbon fragments. You shouldn't have to worry about it banging on the floorpan too much if it does go.It winds up looking kind of like a cheer leaders pom pon at the end were it broke..
