Default whats more harmful?

Whats more harmful to the drivetrain, a burnout or a hard launch on slicks? I know you do a burnout to heat the slicks, but what does more damage to a stock rear end? Trying to clear up some confusion between a friend and me.

launch by far...once your tires start spinning during a burnout, the stress is significantly less...if all you do is spin and never hook, you wont break ****, when you hook - boom!

Hard launches are brutal. Even if nothing breaks, a high rpm, dead hook launch is very hard on the clutch. Properly done, a burnout doesn't hurt the drivetrain at all.

Its simple physics. Each force has an equal and opposite force. A car doing a burnout applies less force to the ground than a car doing a hard launch because only a fractin of the total power of the car is being transfered to the pavement. During a hard launch all (or almost all) of the total amount of power is being applied to the ground, which causes the drivetrain to realize an equal but opposite force which results in a greater amount of stress absorbed by the drivetrain.

A burnout is a part-throttle event. A launch is a WOT event.

Perfect answer.

This is why the stock 10-bolt won't hold up when sticky tires are added.

I put on 315 Nitto DR's not too long ago....so would a burnout on the stock 10 bolt hurt it as well as shifting hard and trying to chirp the tires between gears??....i really dont know how "sticky" or well these tires grab yet....thanks! (dont mean to hijack the thread)
