When I talked to the shop that installed mine they told me that their really was not a break in period but they recomended that I listen for a few miles to make sure nothing sounded abnormal. Other than that I don't see why you would technically need a "break in" period. Some on chime in here if you actually know first hand about this not just what you have heard about break in.

you need to heat cycle them, that what they refer to as "break in". I wouldn't romp on it till at least 100 miles and 4-5 heat cycles, you dont want to shock the gears and weaken them.

There is definitely a break in period.
Drive it 15 miles and let it cool overnight. Do this at least three times.
Drive it 500 miles.
No hard launches
No agrressive driving
Change the oil at 200 miles
No synthetic oil
The gear oil will get the hotest during break in and especially if you launch hard o give it hell. If the oil gets too hot it breaks down and the tempering process for the gears fails and you burn the gears u and they will whine like hell. If you nail the pattern break in period will be a bit less. Follow these steps and your gears will be fine.

1-i would run it on jackstands for a few minutes fowards and backwards
2-then let it cool for a little bit
3-drive 10 miles
4-let them cool for at least an hour
5-go easy on them for about 500 miles
6-change the lube and check for metal shavings or unusual wear
7-go have fun!
