Default racing in overdrive?

i was playing around with a calulator and it seems if i were to get 3.73 rearend gears i would max out at about 123 mph. what if i could go faster but ran out of gear? if i were to get a high performance tranny rebuild would that make it safe to race in overdrive to gain that extra gear? i dont want to spin the motor past 6,000 rpm so would i be screwed and have to move down to 3.42's or is there some other solution. im not interested in resizing my wheels either. im just wondering if i should go with 3.42's or 3.73's when i get a new 12 bolt. i would really like to get the 3.73's but i dont want to have to switch them out for 3.42's so any other suggestions would be helpfull. thanks in advance guys.

I'm assuming your running a 4L60E, why wouldn't you run in O.D.? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

The ONLY thing I do in OD with my Pro Yank is cruise.

I have gone into OD at WOT hundreds of time. I know I'm on borrowed time doing it but it WILL go.

You won't really start to see any real increase in wear until above 6400 or so. I'd say you'd be safe till about 6600 before really increasing bottom end wear. This is of course assuming you have aftermarket valve springs. You should not rev the stock springs past 6200.

There is really no need to limit yourself to 6000rpm shift points.

I would just get a built tranny. They seem to hold up the strain and the heat. Even though heat is the tranny's enemy, they are built for it. When I get my stage 3 race prepped trans I'm going with the 373's.
