From the sticky:
One should not attempt to fix a pinion seal leak unless they are familiar with the way a rear end goes together, because pinion depth & crush sleeves are vital to correct setup. Fixing a pinion seal includes removing the driveshaft, pinion nut, washer, yoke, and old seal. The housing should be clean from nicks, and the yoke should be cleaned with a scotchbrite pad to get rid of any unsmooth areas before the new seal is installed. When retightening the pinion nut, it is important not to overcrush the crush sleeve. Pinion bearing preload needs 24-32 inch/lbs tq with a new crush sleeve, or 8-12 inch/lbs if reusing your old sleeve.

hey man, i had a bad pinion seal leak also. this local shop down the road charged me $197 bucks to replace it. he replaces it, and i come home and let it sit in the garage and the next day i still see it leaking. luckily, i know a guy who does work on the side. as he tears it down, he finds out that punk a$$ shop used a cheap seal..

i had mine looked at last year b4 the TA nats (600 mile drive for me),,last fall i installed my LT's and noticed it was leaking again. So, i called the Chevy dealership where i had the work done and as long as i bring it in b4 the year mark (3/16) it will be free,,since i already paid the 200 bux to get it fixed ,,,i have it in my laptop calendar to bring it in each Feb for a new one

From what I've notice with my 2 camaros and many other I know, It seems that they all will leak at some point. I've had my rear in my SS apart twice and have replaced the pinion seal each time. Not long after replace the pinion seal (2 to 3 month) it starts seeping again. It also seems the harder u drive the car the sooner it will leak.

Beyond that, eliminate as much flex from the axle housing as possible. The root cause of nearly every 10 bolt failure is from case flex, and not gear size as many claim.
