how to beef up ur 10bolt sounds intreasting and i no you all hate 10bolts but this is for the people keeping there 10bolt

How bout this guys. His theory seems logical to me. And if you have a welder you could do it cheap. Ends up sad though. But yeah the 2nd gen's rear axle is bad ***.

LOL, yea his theory FAILED too. Read the whole thread. In the end it's completely pointless to waste money on a 10-bolt but some people just keep tryin anyway.
Granted some auto cars have had them last quite a while, but in the end the stock rear is trash.

I must chime i about the gm 8.5 10 bolt. We used one out of a Grand National with stock axels, stock diff, no welding of the tubes and a Richmond Gear. This rearend was in 2 different Malibus (both running between 6.90 and 7.30 in the 1/8 with SB chevys) with sub 1.60 60fts for years. Mailbu number 2 then went with a BB chevy and went 6.18 lifting both tires pretty consistently for a good while. The rear then got sold to a project truck with with a BB chevy running low 9s in the 1/4 until the motor wore out. Remember this whole deal took place over over about a 10 year time frame. A few months ago we ran across the same rear in a guys local shop and he had purchased it back from the guy with the truck project and he said he would sell it back to us if we wanted for $800. Now if that doesn't prove that a GM 8.5 10 Bolt won't hold up then I don't know what will. One more thing to remeber is back then we were all on a tight budget and would have never spent 2500 on a rearend so we had to make due, and the GN rearend was the ticket for us. We also didn't have aftermarket control arms either! Just my .02 so flame if you want, just trying to show another side of the arguement.

Another 7.5 10 bolt comment..I've raced an 11 second '84 MonteCarlo SS for 10 years, a '95 formula for 5 years and currently my '01 formula for 7+ years..I race alot and all 3 cars have had the 10 bolt. Yes I replaced a ring and pinion due to breakage in the '84 (never in the '95/'01) but for all these years not too bad.

I did it. Bolted the front of the leaf spring to the front LCA bolt hole, and shoved the back end of the leaf spring up under the rear bumper.
{94Z rolling chassis that I was moving out of my way, and the 2nd gen 10-bolt was the only one I had handy that day
but it fit and rolled! }

I busted 2 stock 10 bolts with my bolt on LT1. Automatic car running 13.4 ETs. I did break the first one after installing a TH400 and Nitto DRs. I put in another 10 bolt I had laying in the backyard someone gave me. Pinion seal started leaking shortly after the TH400 bitch slapped it a few times. Got fed up cause it was just like the 4L60E situation (broke 2 of those as well) and found a used Strange 12 bolt. Got it all sorted out and took the car to the LTx shootout where it went 13.0 all day long.
By the way, the only way I could get rid of those 2 10 bolts was to give them away.

my nova has a 8.5" behind its 481 CI BBC powa, 28x10.5 slicks(ran 30" tall once but clipped the fender a lil so backed it down) its hold up very well i must say. they def had that 10 bolt right, i wonder why they got cheap on us as the cars got faster
