Difference between spool and posi... What is the difference between the two?? What are the pros and cons?? <img border="0" alt="[USA]" title="" src="graemlins/patriot.gif" />

Re: Difference between spool and posi... A spool basically locks the two axles together so when one wheel is turning, the other wheel is also turning at the same rate.
Spools are fine for street driving, I have had one in my car for the last 2 years. They tend to tear up tires a bit faster and make a little more noise going around turns.
On the positive side...you will probably never break it, spools are lighter then posi units, and the car feels more 'predictable' to me. What I mean by this is if I am getting sideways with the spool I can back out of it a little and the car will straighten itself out pretty much on its own.

Re: Difference between spool and posi... Well, fuel consumption would be minimally different...I guess the spool would be a little better because of less rotating mass, but it is probably no measurable difference.
Performance wise, spools are great for drag racing...probably not so good for Auto-x (although I am not sure about this).
