Torsen switch to Auburn

Torsen switch to Auburn
Has anyone switched from a torsen to an Auburn and if so could you get away with using the stock shims for the backlash. My rear has some slack in it, found upon inspection that the torsen has internal play and the backlash on the ring and pinion is perfect. So can this just be swaped to an auburn? I know the auburn uses C clips for the axels and the torsen has some kind of paddle, big difference? If I need shims for back lash, whats the best place to get them? Dealer?

You don't need to mess with the pinion shim which is a good thing.
They both use C clips.
You just need to swap the Auburn in and check side bearing preload and backlash. It might be ok with the original shims, but probably not.
I'm 2 hours north of you, the performance shops up here sell carrier bearing shims.
The dealer only sells the thick iron spacers so thats going to be a huge headache trying to order one or two of each so just get some aftermarket shims.
If you want it just as quiet after as it was before keep the backlash exactly the same.

when i started getting that clunking sound it was the internal gears. they had stressed fractured and strarted chipping away in chunks . they were getting hung inbetween the internal gears and locking them up.

Reiderracing is the olny place I've seen these shims, they are well worth the money and order time.
