In Sept.07,I went from A4 3.23s'(GU5 option) to A4 4.56s'.
Freeway RPM in 4th convertor locked
-2700 RPM at true 60 MPH
-2875 RPM at true 65 MPH
-3075 RPM at true 70 MPH
RPM were read off factory dash tach and 'true' MPH were established by timing time between mile markers.
MPG seemed strangely good, for 4.56s',driving around locally and was proven to be incredible on a long trip.I did a Cleveland,Ohio to Tampa,Florida and back with 4.56s'.Having done this trip 8 times before in my Z with the 3.23s',I would get 24.5 MPG staying with traffic and 25.5 observing the speed limits. It's a 1070 mile trip with the same route(s) taken every trip and it provided me with good data with/for the 4.56s'.With the 4.56s' I got 21.5 MPG keeping up with traffic and 21.9 MPG observing the speed limits.Theoretically with the mechanical ratio change,it should have been in the 17-18 MPG range.
At the strips,Norwalk and Thompson,it was consistent 13.7x's with the 3.23s',4.56s' gave me consistent 13.2x's.
I don't consider returning to 3.23s' as the 4.56s' are too much fun on the street.
Would I recommend 4.56s',NO,but I'm old school from the 60s' and 70s' when torque and gears ruled the streets.

But I don't think he'll get away with that in a 6 speed car. We all like the extra torque but it's not very useful if you can't take advantage of it. When you do, the gears won't last.

i went from 3.42 to 4.10 to 4.56 in my 2000 m6 ss & loved the 4.56 gears!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you have power every where instantly in almost any gear........
the taller the gear the less material there is left because of the tooth pattern & so they are a little weaker persay.........

ok that makes sense thanks for the help and about how long did it take for you to change out the gears i'm a certified tech but i have never done gears in a camaro only in a ford which the whole center section can be removed so i was just wondering what time of time frame to expect

What he said... Usually people have trouble keeping 4.10s in 6 speed cars--especially if they up the horsepower. As soon as you modify your suspension or use sticky tires, the gears break. These are the first I've heard of 4.56s working. I know one is an auto. Maybe heymoej can tell us about his car (suspension mods, tires and power level).

4 hours or so with a friend & taking your time, ring gear change & bearings can be a bitch some times getting them off since i dont have a press or air compressor ..........after you do it 3-4 times your speed will really increase in swapping....
if you are a tech i would do it with out hesitation......do you have a zexal lsd or auburn lsd stock?

its a bolt on 2000 m6 ss with 315-35-18 nittos in the rear with full umi adj suspension, lowered on sportlines in the front & hyper coil in the back with bilstein h-d all around.........
it went 12.5 @ 114 with a 1.8 60 foot before the cam & i broke the auburn then i broke the 4.10 gears & went with the 4.56 & loved them!!!!!!!!!!!!
allthough i think 4.10 will work if you use a 17 inch rim & tire but my 18s loved the 4.56 gears

this may sound dumb but just out of curiousity if you have to identical cars and one has 4:56 and one has 3:73 which would win from a 45 pull i don't race from rolls its gay but if i'm messing with someone on the highway i would like to know if it is worth it or is 4:56 1/4 mile gears only?
