WOW! I have never seen a 10 bolt do that before? I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.

almost looks like the bolts were over-torqued on install then stressed under heavy load...

if it was done by handling too much power, the heads won't be the thing to shear off...the ends of the bolts that go into the gear itself would...i still say over torque

Yes, i meant by over torque , was from the installer. The bolts were tighten to tight.

Can you post pics of some of the bolt fracture surfaces? That may tell the story.

The same thing happened to me, but not on the ring gear bolts. One of the bolts on the inner diameter sheared and ripped the exact same tear in my cover that you have.

The end cap bolts on the torsens blow the heads off the bolts from excessive wear and horsepower. I blew up 2 different units that way. In your case, the end cap bolt head got wedged between the case and differential where the ring gear bolt heads protrude and just knocked the heads off the ring gear bolts. One of mine almost did this but it just hammered big pieces out of a few of the bolt heads. Another bolt head just got shot out of the case. BTW, the impression of an over torque situation some are getting is because the end cap gets a large amount of pressure applied to it from abuse. Its a bit like lifting a head and stretching the bolts but in this case the bolt breaks.

Yep, you can see by how much bolt is left in the ring gear that the bolt heads were knocked off and not broken by streching.
