It depends...at some point, Strange stopped putting fill plugs in the housings. If you have the upgraded aluminum cover, you can drain it by that drain plug, or you can just remove the cover. They take right at about 2 quarts of fluid.

Question: did you fill it up until it reached the bottom of the fill hole on the aluminum cover?

Hence my leading question about where he filled it to...I'd believe that it would take 3 quarts to fill up to the fill hole on the aluminum cover, which isn't there to indicate the proper fill level.

My Moser was loud from the minute I drove the first mile on it. At this point it is so funking LOUD I need earplugs. I replaced the 10 bolt because it was screaming loud and now 2K dollars later I have an even LOUDER rear that wont break as easy. One of the biggest wastes of money on this car to date was this rear end.

At least you have one I just have to guess the amount required and hope I'm right When I took the cover off the last time, though, 2 quarts had gotten the fill level right to the middle of the cover where I wanted it.

Strange said the extra noise is expected. I just changed the fluid 85/140 and additive and no difference (wear pattern looks fine). Funny thing is i wanted to get 3.73's and strange wouldn't install them because they said they were too loud. The ratio shouldn't make the gears whine if they are setup right.

Mechanically it's fine, so whatever, guess I can live with it if it doesn't get any worse.
i have a moser 12 bolt but mine does the same thing, only whines under like 1/10 throttle in mostly 6th when im just trying to maintain a slower speed for 6th gear, like 50-60mph
oh its got 4.11s too

I have a Moser and mine was dead quiet UNTIL...I sidestepped my clutch at 5500rpm on ET STREETS and knocked off a 1.58 60ft and now it whines I wish the 9 inchers were available back 6yrs ago.

Glad I went with the M9. Funny, I used to think putting Ford type **** in our cars were kinda stupid, and I hated white too!

I just installed a Strange 12 Bolt with 3.73's on February 15th, and its loud as ****. Particularly between 25-45mph and 55-71 mph and I definitely hear a lot of chatter when at lower speeds.

Keep in mind that my car is Daily Driven 50 miles a day with a 3000 Stall, and I almost hear it with the Music Blaring : )

Even after an Engineer for Strange drove in my car telling me the sounds were typical, I have yet to be convinced considering it's gotten much louder (2500 miles)

Yeah I don't know why these things are so noisy. I've probably got about 6-7k street miles on my 12 bolt and its sounded the same since day one. When the T-tops are off its not really an issue, but otherwise its annoying. I couldn't live with it if the car had a stock exhaust. The rear seems solid and have had no problems with it, just kinda loud. For what you pay it should be dead quite, I can understand maybe after a season or 2 of racing, but mine was like this since day 1. Ahh well, as long as it doesn't break.
You shouldn't be hearing chatter? Are you sure its the rear or the converter locking/unlocking, did you tune the gear ratio? The eaton HD posi is a good piece, I've got no complaints about that.

Strange told me the bigger housing will carry the noise, so yeah, it's almost like they expect every rear to whine. I'm not sure if its all in the setup either, i know a couple guys who had there gears redone and it was the same.
