He's only raised the price $50. Mine was the 6th 8.8 he built, it's only $50 more than what I paid. I'm not for sure why but there is some reason he raised it up a lil, he wouldn't just raise it up to make more money. That's not like Craig.

Plus $100 for a core charge?

I'm not seeing that much of a break over say a Strange 12 bolt on a GP price.

If I was getting another rearend I would get a Strange 12 bolt. Impeccable work and they break them in before they ship them.

the reason why i asked is because some times it's not always tha 8.8 these big companys like to round up or down with numbers for example "the ls1" so lol back at you. any hoo i,m just tring to find out the advantages and disadvantages ot the 8.8 and 12 what is the actuall weight diffrence, is the 8.8 ring and pinion actually bigger or smaller than the 12 bolt. i'm thinking 12 bolt as of now but if the 8.8 is as strong and doesnt rob as much power then thats a good point over the 12.

For a comperable 12 bolt ur going to pay about $400-500 more than a 8.8. That's with the exact same internals. But I'd say the BIGGEST gains is u don't get the trouble u do with a 12 bolt (bent axles, leaking pinion, ect) I still talk to Craig and he still hasn't had any returns or had to fix any. U can also use Ford gears, best quality over any gear out there. also, look how much stuff is out for 8.8 rear ends.

I think for a serious street/race car, he is welding new ends onto the axles that allow a TRUE bolt in axle...eliminating the C-clips. The bearings are pressed onto the axles, like a 9" setup. That is the rear most of you are probably seeing.

I've been racing Mustangs longer than most of you have been into cars, the 8.8's are strong. I have the first rear he built in my car, it was the "experiment." It has held up fine. Since then, he has made some changes, not due to breaks, but just some areas he thought COULD break. I would still trust my rear to take me into the 9's...and it's outdated compared to he new ones. I have the basic deal...31 spline axles, girdle, and Auburn. For 90% of you guys, the basic deal is PLENTY. There are only a small handfull of LS1 making any REAL power to need a 9".

My biggest question, is what is the weight difference? About the same or is there a huge difference?

the 7.5 and 8.8 are only about 20lbs or a lil less difference. compaired to a 12 bolt or even a 9".......don't make me laugh.

My Moser 12 bolt weighed 196 lbs wet. My stock 10 bolt weighed 160 lbs wet. Both on my bath scale. 36 lbs difference.

How come Craig is too cheap to advertise on here?

FWIW, I am a fan of 12 bolts for cars that mostly are on the street, and see a little strip. I think a 9" is overkill for most folks. I have a 9".

Craig thought we were too expensive for him for advertising so needless to say I like companies that are known for handling warranty issues like Moser and Strange.

I don't mean to overly needle Craig but I'm going to start deleting all the Craig references since he's making enuff to sponsor us so he's not getting a free ride anymore.

Well after reading this thread and other post and input I've gotten ovet the last few weeks...I've made my decision...I think. Strange is the way to go.

Ford 9" is toooo much for my few times a year down the 1320 and as much as I depend on this board for info, if Greg ain't gonna supoort it than I will not support him.... 8.8 is out.

Strange seems to have the most positive feedback and the fact they break them in for shipping is top notch.

Thanks board!!!

Ron

Craig does not even have the man power to build the orders he has right now. Advertising would put him under the table and make people unhappy. He is the only one who knows how to do this particular rear in his shop..
