Default Rearend noise after changing shocks

I changed my shocks this weekend and noticed that I seem to have a little more play in the rearend than I think I should (but I'm not an expert on rearends). Today I noticed a clanking noise coming from the rear when coasting to a stop under about 25 mph (it sounds like the driver side, but that may be because that's where I sit).

IMPORTANT CLUE: The noise seems to subside when I apply the brakes and it "follows" speed in that it sounds like it clanks about once per tire rotation (or maybe twice?). There's no grinding noise, but there is a hissing sound coming form the rearend and has been for a long time now. I had the gears replaced with 3.73's a couple years ago by Northwest Differential in Kirkland (reputable shop).

Any ideas on the noise would be appriciated, but also looking for a GOOD rearend shop in Portland (preferably sw/nw).
