building a 9 inch help..

building a 9 inch help.. Ok well i bought a 9 inch for $50 came from a ford truck, i am gonna modify it, to fit under my car as i cant afford a moser or anything..
i was wondering if there is a place i can order my torque arm brackets, and all that..Pretty much any info you can give me about building a 9 inch will help, i know i have to get the tubes shortend, and all that also, does anyone know around how much has to be taken off???

Moser might actually sell you the proper brackets. As for the length I would think you need to measure the existing rear end flange to flange and have the 9" shortened to that dimension. After it's shortened you may want to get the tube ends that will accept your stock rear brakes? Also make sure to have the axle tubes fully welded around the center. The shop will have to straighten everything back out after all this and honestly it's not a whole lot more cost effective than buying a (new) stronger moser unit.

see i was kinda think i could get away with building one for $1000...i can weld so im good for the brackets and what not, the only thing i really want a shop to is the shortening..
try Art Morrison they fabricate just about any bracket that has to do with a 9". great quality and prices. http://artmorrison.com/layout.php

Cut the old brackets off your old ten bolt for the LCAs and shock mounts. As for the torque arm mount, good luck. You should be able to buy the "Big Ford Ends" for the axles tubes so they will mount to the brakes from Moser.
The third member from the 9 inch that you already have would then bolt into the new Moser housing. The housing and axle package comes with the bearings, all you would need would be 4 quarts of gear oil, two feet of vacuum line for the breather, two three inch exhaust clamps for the sway bar, and possibly a conversion u joint for the driveshaft. If you can get the brackets and do the welding/fab stuff yourself you would definitely be saving some money. Use the saved money and get a quality third member. I get all my 9" third members from NASCAR Cup Teams for about $975 with all the goodies (lightened/polished gears, detroit locker, Ford Motorsport Nodular case w/billet caps and larger dia. bearings, & billet yoke) Try www.racingjunk.com for good deals on high performance stuff.
