I have had the Camaro to 105 so far, but I havent really beat on it or raced anything yet.

The truck on the other hand is a different story. I had it to 158 on the dyno, and on a road in Mexico called the 121 toll way right before they opened it I got up to 150 in third gear while racing a 4th gen SS on the way home from a ricekiller meet in Frisco. The Camaro feels safer at speed though. The truck doesnt like to stop.

I'm sorry, but saying something like "I've had my car at XXXmph on the dyno" is one of the stupidest things I've read in an automotive forum in awhile.
Just sit and think of it for a moment before you type.

NO wind resistance,
NO parasitic drag,
NO friction between the front tires and the road, (& less friction on the Dyno drum on the rear than normal concrete)

As for real world top speed, the new Camaro has a drag coefficient of 0.37 which is about as aerodynamic as a Cadillac or an aerodynamic Pickup which isn't saying much.

wait...THESE CARS ARE FAST!! especially on the highway

it doesnt have the best get up and go out the hole...unless u use the n20.

would i say it is capable of going 180 + ..YES!!

and they may have size of caddilac or pickup.
but a motor to go as fast as your wallet allows!

what is your average speed??? (its shows you in the menu display in instrument cluster)
mine is 39.4
I dont know if you can manipulate these in any way but im guessing the ECM just averages your MPH for the amount of HRS the car has been running..idk about the idle..

if i can find some road ill put everything it gots hitting every gear maxed out and take a picture when the 6xth gear tops out..
its not that scary..unless your a. p****

back to the topic....

if we can bury the needle on our 4 gens with stock power we should be about to do it on 5 gens. it might just take a little longer and a hell of a lot of road

i've had my 99 t/a around 180-185, rev. limiter in 5th gear. felt very stable and smooth. koni da, hotchkis springs and swaybars.

I'm going to call on this until more information is posted.

(1) The horsepower needed to overcome aerodynamic forces at 180mph is considerable.

(2) The stock spoilers don't put enough down force, and the stock front facisa does not keep the car from trying to fly.

(3) 180+ MPH is beyond the Z tire ratings safe operating envelope.

So unless the car is seriously modified, going over 160 seriously decreases your chances of arriving home alive.

People that claim 160mph or over should be ready to produce an AutoTap or other scan tool log of the excursion or cough up a reliable witness with a civilian radar detector pic.

And yes, I have an AutoTap log of a 159mph run.

99 T/A, m6 with ported heads, cam, and all supporting mods.
calculated speed, and comes to 188 mph.
3.73 gears
25.7 in tall tire
5th gear .74
rev limit set to 6800rpm
so when the rev. limiter comes on in 5th gear should be 188mph, thats why i said 180-185. and yes governer was set at 255mph

i've had my 01 Z28 passed 155+ MANY of times. It used to be a huge rush then i realized how stupid it is to go that fast. Life is more important than getting a rush for 30sec. and possibly death. I have a kid on the way, i'll keep it on the track.

Agreed. I race Super Bikes for my speed kicks. When you get to a certain point, aerodynamics play a major key into the factors. It becomes the equivelent of pulling a "growing" trailer. I've topped out my '07 Gsx-r 1000 at 187mph only a few times in a controlled environment. At full tuck I could tell the bike was getting to it's outter envelope.

Now;
Most bikes have a 7-10% error in the speedo as well. Thus saying with my non-corrected speedo I was ACTUALLY going between 173.9 and 168.3 mph.

The power to weight ratio of the bike I was riding was;

.36 hp/lb

the camaros power to weight ratio at the flywheel is;

.11 hp/lb

So at that in consideration alone, without any other factors such as headwind, drag coeficients of a brick driving down the street, gear ratios, ect... I would call... BS as well.

There are reasons that people spend quite a bit more money to get higher speeds, as the hill your climbing becomes a mountain almost exponentially.
