And just like that folks, your shot at buying a Camaro z/28 in 2014 has passed. Autoguide reports that all 500 cars alotted for 2014 have been spoken for. Bummer. On the flipside, GM is building 2,500 for next year. This is hardly the end of the Z/28...

Well, 500 cars, given the exposure its been given isn't much of a surprise they are sold out. Hopefully for their sake GM doesn't outdo it somehow in the next couple model years, making these ones drop. Well, actually that would be good for us common folk on the used market

First:
There are Z/28's for sale at MSRP or higher on lots. And only about 180 have been built so far. All the allocations were used, but that doesn't mean they sold.
Second: A lot of these will be raced. More so than the COPO's.
Third: AFAIK, GM has only committed to making a total of 2000. They will make as many as they can sell for 2015.
Few people have actually received their preordered cars. I ordered the day the allocations were given out, yet my build date is 06/09/14.
If you want a rare one, more than 1/2 of the allocations are Black with AC. I have red without AC coming. Only 9% are being made so far without AC, and only 3 so far Red without air. Grey without AC is going to rare IF they make one.
The cars are being shipped by enclosed truck, not by rail. This has slowed things down a lot.
The waiting is driving me nuts. I'm already buying tow hooks, tires, etc, for running the car. It will run SCCA Solo2 AS class for autoX and fun track days.

Seems somebody dyno'd one yesterday. 455rwhp * 1.15 (15% loss) = 523HP before full break-in. Seems the Camaro Crew did another LS1 trick. It's the Corvette engine, sure, but it is perhaps under-rated.

Don't want to hurt your feelings, but if you think $75k is a lot of money for new car/truck, you're not "rich". There are SUV's that cost that much today.
I'm willing to bet there are cars on this site that more than $75k were dumped into. $2000 here, $4000 there, $1000 there, it adds up over the years.
As far as Z/28 goes, you could not build something that performed the same for the money. Compared to the cars it's been tested against, it's Walmart pricing.
When corrected for time, the Z/28 is priced roughly where the COPO cars were in the late 60's. Nobody could afford them in 1969, and they can't afford them today. In 1969, they didn't sell well, and some dealers sold them at a loss. Unlike popular myth, they were not limited to 69 cars. Dealers stopped ordering them at 69 units. 50 had to be built to start the run, then only 19 more were ordered.

Yes, a certain amount of folks on here have as much into their cars as a new Z but they didn't pay for it up front. The extended payment plan works well for us poor folks....
