Default [VR] Stage V N/A Z/28 LS7 Makes Over 600rwhp on the Stock Bottom End!

To date we have built roughly 10 Z/28's here in house, and each one with its own special touch whether it be cosmetic or functional for performance. This particular Z/28 build offers both, and is by far the most powerful naturally aspirated variant that we have built to date! The customer is a local Georgia resident that has been through his fair share of hot rod builds in the past. When the Z/28 was released, he did not hesitate to jump on one right away, and knew that it would definitely spend most of its time at the local road course and drag strip. However, with this the stock power coming from the 427ci LS7 quickly became too docile for him, and a major overhaul was needed!

In factory form, the car laid down an impressive 480rwhp and 422rwtq on our dyno. With the package that we had discussed with the customer originally, the 600rwhp mark was in our goals while still keeping something driveable for his wife to jump in from time to time! For this, we opted for a variant of our Stage V naturally aspirated performance package utilizing the best parts available to upgrade airflow through the LS7.

The total modification list included:
  • MSD Ported Intake Manfiold (ported in house @ VR)
  • Nick Williams 102mm Throttle Body
  • MAST Motorsports 285cc LS7 Heads
  • Vengeance Racing "SumBich" Camshaft Kit
  • ATI 10% Underdrive Balancer
  • American Racing 1-7/8" Longtube Headers w/ CATTED X-Pipe
  • Stock Mufflers / Cold Air Intake
  • Vengeance Racing 65lb/hr Fuel Injectors
  • DMH Dual Low-Profile Electric Cutouts
  • Vengeance Racing Valve Covers w/ Coil Relocation

Once the installation and street tuning were completed, it was time to head to the dyno! All tuning was completed on pump 93 octane fuel only, and done with not only performance, but also reliability/longevity in mind. The final result was a huge 613rwhp / 493rwtq!! With the Z/28's 3.91 rear gear ratio and sticky Pirelli tires, this combination not only produces a huge number, but can put it down whether on the street or track! We look forward to posting with follow-up 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, and road course times/results in the coming months as we get into race season!
