400 vs. 422 HP and slight tq changes. But supposedly they are just as fast in a straight line.

I'm guessing the less power and tq of the auto is because of course it's an auto, but can consistantly shift quicker...so they are relatively the same...no?

Cylinder deactivation just seems like more stuff to break.

its not because its an auto. Those are ratings of the engines themselves at the flywheel, doesnt have anything to do with drivetrain. There is probably a different cam in the l99 because of the cylinder deactivation that is the reason for slightly less power. Even tho GM claims the auto is just as fast if not a bit faster than the 6 speed.

the auto is faster than the 6 speed according to gm. the difference is the cam and lifters for the cylinder deactivation

Personal preference would make me choose a 3 pedal car even if it was slower.

the auto ratios are steaper in the lower gears, so i think it makes up the time in the first few gears.

Let's not kid ourselves guys. The LS3 may be "rated" at 420 but they're making almost 390 to the tire in the C6's bone stock. That's almost 450 at the crank

Are you kidding? I've read from MotorTrend, or one of their sister mags (R&T or C&D) when the 2008 Corvette came out, they dyno'd it, and with the error margin of the dyno, it was making approx 420 HP at the wheel

I think GM is pushing the auto to get more exposure for AFM and they're saying the auto is just as fast as the manual. It may be with engineers driving the cars but I would bet with a good manual driver the M6 will be an easy 2/10's faster.

if the factory doesnt build what you want you have to do it yourself, thats why im going with the auto car with a 415ci LS3 engine right away
