Default New to IRS - some questions

How is GM planning to make the rear diff hold up in the new Camaro to the thrashing it will receive when every other owner of an LS3 powered car puts slicks on it and takes it to the track? With the 4th gens, guys were breaking them on stock tires at the track and with Nittos it was about 10 passes at best. The LS powered CTS-V cars were even worse about breaking rear ends with the wheel hop issue. So how has GM fixed this on the new Camaro?

I don't know what they've done... but 3900 lbs + 430 bhp + 6 speed + slicks will probably equal one broken IRS.

Then again, the 3rd and 4th gen rear ends were just cheap and available, that's why GM used those. Seems like they're taking a different route with the new Camaro, so maybe they'll put something good in there.

So nobody has any insight on the design & durability of the new Camaro's IRS & rear diff?

I've heard the G8 is supposed to have a strong IRS rear, hopefully they transfer that over.

The C6 vette one has held up to 1000hp. That kinda makes me hopeful that it will be durable.

Keep an eye on G8 forums and see if anyone is having any issues, its the same exact rear end.

We I have a 2010 2ss auto on order . Also I have pushed My G8 to a best of 1.58 60ft with a maggie avarage 1.61-1.63 60ft 11.43 @ 119.13 . The car has 4300miles on it and I have hit it with 125 shot out of the hole on dr's 12.06 @ 115 , a 175 shot from second and up 12.09 @ 117mph . The LSD is on the soft side when making back to back runs on dr's it will check out then come right back in ...

First of all, no where near every other person will be bolting on slicks and taking the car to the track. That being said, I think GM has learned their lesson with the 10-bolts of the 4th gen and will have something stronger in the 5th gen. I know the wheel hop issues of previous GM cars shouldn't be an issue anymore because GM now uses asymetrical half shafts on IRS rears now.

They stated that they built it knowing that it would be drag raced. It's not the G8 rear, it's stronger. Will it be strong enough only time will tell, but it's supposed to be much better than what we have seen so far, and is supposed to be in C6 territory as far as power handling goes

ZF makes the Holden/G8 rear.

Who makes the Camaro rear?

So the 11s were with a supercharger? What's the setup? Headers, tune, intake? I'm seriously considering one of these things.
