camaro ss vs. g8 gxp?
are these cars really that close in performance? i've read on some magazine where the gxp does 4.5seconds 0-60. where the ss does 4.7? how is the 4door family car quicker than the new camaro ss? i know they have the same motor but i would think the camaro would be quicker. what's you guys input on this?

Gearing perhaps? How are the G8 GXP's geared? I don't know if it's the super wide wheel base on those cars or what, but man they sure do put down every ounce of horsepower they make. Australian engineering for the win.

the Gxp is a 3.73 in manual.....and let me tell you for the record...if you buy a sedan you don't want to be constantly rowing through te gears..
I gave up a Zo6 to have a CTs V 09....smooth pweraplication and with a tune only...runs into the 11's add an intake...and catback and the s/c cr really wakes up.
I saw a GXp in white...slightly dirty ...i was driving my 06 DMS (Exteriorly enhanced)
GTO ....
Needless to say i think the SS Looks better..and really who will know if you swap gears
and the LS3 , as is evident in the LSA & LS9 are beastly and respond very well to mods.
I went foor door i choose the Caddilac....12.2 stock in auto.... Its a modern GNX only better in every way....
remember 11.9 with just a tune and a warrantte.
'
And the presence of the V trumps the GXp....as does the SS trumps it.
the GXP has agood interior...but damn they have nothing inside.
Also Caddilac is desparate to move there top line CTS-v.
All 3 are great I just love having a warrantee for once.
(oh and the tune...was worked in such a way as to be untraceable....even if it would the :"supplier" will gladly provide a clean pcm for only 160 bucks......if you blow somthing serious
SS for the win

Depends on what you want to spend??? Or 2 or 4 door?
g8 gxp i paid 33,995.00 out the door.. auto, but is faster than the m6.. but not as fun as the m6 version..
Yes the cts-v trumps it , at what cost though? mid 60k's?
The camaro right now is in the upper 30's and 40's..... why not buy a base vette?
Here is the GXP trump card.... "FASTEST MOST POWERFULL PONTIAC EVER MADE" and it will hold that title forever. Value down the road, who knows? But with that title, atleast the price will not plummet as much, especially considering only 1829 made. Hell the one i have , color and option combination, makes it one 1 of 70.
CTS-V trump card..... Fastest 4-door sedan in the world, will it hold that title in the future?
Camaro trump card.... First year of the new body style.. but there are not alot being made right now. The demand will subside soon, it may already have. Not very rare anymore. I was looking at them, just couldnt justify the price, "fringe of my price range".. plus i needed a 4-door , so that sealed it's fate.
So between the 3 here goes...
If you want the best looking , rather it be 2-4 door... i would go with the camaro.
If you want to own a guaranteed piece of history and need a powerfull 4-door... go with the GXP.
If you need a the fastest 4-door right now, and money isnt really a concern... go with the CTS-V.
I still find myself drooling over the cts-v, and may own one someday....
JMOP, i am just a rug guy, what do i know?

The GXP is 3,70 with the stick and the tranny has more gear per gear aka the gto t56 (really 6060)
My GXP moves buddy!
And I am used to a f body m6 with a 4,56. The GXP feels almost the same though as far as the gears go.

I wish my GXP had the f body gears. Mainly for the ,50 sixth and not the ,63 sixth.
With the 3,90 it doesn't need the gto style tr6060. My GXP moves buddy!

I stand corrected. Thanks.
I tested this on the highway and then ran the gear calc.

red light to red light it will be a drivers race between the SS and gxp. they run pretty close in the 1/4 but after that the ss traps more and will probably end up being faster after the 1/4.
cts-v beats them all but most people cant afford one. personally id take the ctsv over both of them.
apples and oranges between the ctsv and the ss/gxp
actually id be tickled to death to have either one!!

MSRP for the base Pontiac G8 GXP is $37,610 so I don't know how anyone can say its more than an SS. Unless you're talking out the door, becuse they are good discounts and 0% finncing available for the G8 but even then there so close if your look at equally optioned cars.
