There will always be mid 40 year old guys with small genitals and big wallets paying w/e it takes to feel good about themselves for a couple of min. Just like with the GT500 I'll laugh at the scrubs who paid corvette money for a camaro. I can't believe people are this dumb.

I know, that is so true.

40-50k ???
First of all, why would anyone pay that much for this new Camaro when you can buy a used Corvette for even less than 40k? Any used Corvette is will out perform any new 5th gen. I'd wait a year or two then buy one which will probably be under 35k.

[QUOTE=Jeff M;11584853]I don't know how many times this has to be said. GM has nothing to do with the markup, you CAN NOT blame anyone but your dealer. GM should be fined? There are laws regarding price fixing dumbass, GM can't tell the dealers what price to sell a car at, that's illegal.
"That's about 98% true. The price on the sticker is called MSRP! That is what the vehicle should sell for!! Then there is the invoice price - DEALER holdback - advertising - transportation - and bank floor plan charges.
The MSRP is the same in all states based on the production date.
I think GM did a great job with the car - The looks price performance and handling won't make everyone happy. Yes the car will cost less once it's been owned. I think many folks miss the fact this is a PRODUCTION CAR. At this point in time who makes anything better for less? For christ sake lets be happy - the car is in production today

Been to the two Chevy dealers here in Charleston, SC. Both had a 2LT, one had 7k markup, the other had 5k markup. Salesman came out at the 5k one and asked if I was interested. When I told him I had guaranteed pricing for less than MSRP through my finance company the salesman said that they could "work with me" on the price. Funny, considering he doesn't decide the price anyways.
I wonder what sales managers are thinking. Mustangs here are going for sticker or less, and I have seen quite a few on the road. I have only seen one Camaro. In business school we always learned about the importance of long-term business and marking up what is supposed to be a middle income sports car seems to go against that. Keep the price under a Challenger, G37 & 370z, and all other comparables (Mustang may be too much cheaper to stay under); then you get a long-term sales platform and a better rep with customers. I'd rather make 100k profit across the whole year than 100k profit in one quarter for the whole year. Spread it out and keep the place running and people selling, makes everyone feel a little better.

pricing
It's real simple. Every car has a window sticker with a price. The price is the Manufacuturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) That does not mean you sell it for the amount listed. Most of the time we pay below this amount. In this case, the new Camaro a getting more than MSRP. About 3000 to 5000 over MSRP. Not because a dealer feels they should get this amount. Purely the consumer is willing to pay this amount. This is what the market demands right now. So anyone not willing to pay this amount should wait until december when there is a foot of snow on the ground and get their best deal...

guess for the same reason that someone would let a dealership **** them for 70,000$ on a 2009 avalanche! people will do anything to have a status symbol or pay a premium to be first!
