everyone knew it would happen... the dealer out here marked the price up 5k for a v6 also... its a shame... its bad enough the economy sucks right now... people arent making as much so the best bet is to increase prices... awesome logic

You know after reading this thread just for fun I thought I would check the prices on new Camaros around here (Dayton area). There is one SS within 50 miles and atleast 20 v6 cars. All the v6 cars are around $30K. I think that is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. These dealers are morons. It's like they have no idea what is going on down here or around the country. For thoes of you that don't know the city is more or less dying. GM plant closed and layed of like 2000 people, almost all the Delphi plants closed (several thousand more people) and countless other small businesses are closed, closing, or thinking about it. And they have the ***** to tack $8k to $10K onto these cars just because they are new.

Thats why GM is going bankrupt. Pricing themselves right out of business. Im only 25 and I remember when my dad bought a brand new truck (hard loaded) back in 95' for like 18k or something like that. Its just ridiculous that some brand new trucks are over the 40k mark.

Gm has nothing to do with the pricing at the dealerships, they only get money when the dealership buys the car from GM. GM sells all their camaros at the same price. The dealership then owns the car and can sell (or try) it at whatever they want. As far as GM goes, a v6 should be mid 20's and an SS should be low to mid 30's. What your privately owned dealership says could differ. If it gets extremely out of hand in one dealership, GM may step in and rebuke their franchise rights but i've never seen that happen to anyone and my dad has 9 dealerships, and has lots of friends all over the country who have dealerships. You think this mark up is bad, my dad's friend has a Ferrari dealership. When the superamerica came out, there was a $150,000 mark up on the two that he got and they were sold! I know i know, completly different but still, think about it.

Any mark up is wrong but think about the economy, dealerships are hurting as bad as anything else, if they think theres something that will sell, they are going to exploit it and take advantage.

Well GM and the dealerships are pricing themselves out. They have gotten too big. They need to get rid of the little dealerships that hold 50 new cars on their lots. Just my opinion tho. 5 new Dodge/Chrysler dealerships just got cut off where I live.

We have 2 local delaers here in the NY, Westchester county area both on the same street. The street is miles long but anyway... both dealers have v6 rs camaros loaded to the gills. One is silver, the other is yellow. The silver one was sold at sticker for $29,995. That dealer is selling the car basically for what you would build it for on the chevy website. The yellow one is marked up to ..... $37,000 at the other dealership. Not sure if that one has been sold yet. But it just goes to show you if you take your time and look around.... you can find a decent deal.

There's one at a dealership in Middletown, DE that's a 1LT V6, black w/ white stripes, with no markup. I just went and looked at it.

you know at first i was tired of reading all these markup posts and bitching. but i heard a disturbing story today. my friend was looking at a camaro. a guy was leaving that dealership that was trying to order a 2SS. it came out to 38k and he was happy to pay that. the salesmen tells him theres a 5k adjustment on this car. he said to shove it.

i mean WTF. im sure they lost what 2-3k plus financing at least by being greedy? whats really fucked up is dealers failing to accept our current economic situation. now is not the time to be greedy. i hope dealers like this go out of business. i really do.

People are paying it, so dealers will keep doing it.

All the allotments for the SS are apparently sold out of the dealerships here. The only cars they have left are those whose buyers backed out. At least that's what they all told me.

After dealing with the buying frenzy, markup madness, the fact that the car really isn't that cheap (2SS) and that it's hard to see out of I'm thinking of just getting a G8 GXP instead.

I also looked at a new 2010 Ford Mustang GT.

The MSRP was $30,900 and it was marked up as a "new model".

Best thing you could do lol! Even if an SS was only 20k id rather buy a g8 gxp.

I work for Ganley Chevrolet in Cleveland, we are selling these cars at sticker. It is making me sick to see what these other dealers are doing. If anyone is looking for one of these let me know and you can get in one of these cars for what the price on the Chevy website is when you build your own. We also honor GMS on these as well.

It's going to take a while before the dealers start to soften their prices. the best thing to do is to not give any of the high mark up dealers any business.

IDK about all that, but I do kinda like the looks of the G8 GXP a lil better than the new camaro.

well government motor company (gmc) has never been very good at price comparison to ford. that is why ford has always out sold chevy. it wouldnt matter if gm was the best car in the world and the fastest. if an average joe wants to buy a car doesnt really care that much about cars, he's going with the cheaper one.

Remember the insane pricing on the Miata , PT Cruiser , redesigned Mustang when they first showed up? The hoopla will die down after a few months then you can get one for a decent price. When ( and if) the Z28 comes out , it will be the same . As some one has already said , there are those that will pay more to be the first kid on the block with the latest & greatest.
