Default Wrote my 1st Policy for a 2010 SS Camaro (Insurance)

I work for a company that is partnered for AARP to offer special rates. I had a customer call up and just got a 2010 Camaro SS Black, and I beleive he said Manual. No stripes, he says its a real nice car.

Most companies use a company called the ISO which rates all the veh, these rates are not in so we went by the MSRP (35,0xx). This guy was over 50, this veh was Pleasure useage, 1k miles per yr. Full cov, no Gap.

He paid about 600.00 per yr. Not too bad.

Until the crash test ratings, and cost of parts and repair come in, we do not know the true rates but I suspect they will be higher.

For a reference we rate vehicles on a symbol rating system 1 thru 25. Its a cost of repair, and claims est.

1 = 1984 Dodg Omni
25 = 2010 Dodge Viper

My car came in at a 22 or 24 I beleive and this one due to the MSRP was a 20.

I know its a lot of insurance jargon but I just thought it was kinda cool to see some v8 Camaros getting purchased and this being my 1st

So lets say this same guy had your Fbody, instead of this 5th gen.
Which would be higher under exact same circumstances and why?

The 4th Gen would as of now. Due to being a history of claims, accidents, and payouts be it medical or property damage would be higher costing. Of course there are factors like the area we live in (location), works use, age of the operator, driving history, consumer report info on the owner of the policy.

Due to not having info on the new Camaros as far as of accident history and the cost of repair, MSRP is leading the pricing.

I estimate in time the 5th gens will be on par, if not more due to the newness and what it takes to make/repaire the cars.

And that's why corvettes are cheaper to insure. Old guys don't wreck them...kids getting a hold of f-bodies are gonna drive the insurance rates up, that kind of sucks.

Pretty much correct. Even though certain vehicles hold a better value then most, if they are driven less and have less accidents the chances of having another decreases. Anyone understands Statistics or does Actuarial Math would understand. Its a "shared risk" among all car drivers.

One of the coolest/rarest/oddest cars I ever came across with a car made by Chrysler but sent to Maserati

For a car back then was on par with a Corvette or Buick GNX, I thought that was pretty sick. The car's rating was as high as a Fbody.

^ I think one of those used to park outside the library I worked at...I would always just stare at it and try and figure out what it was.

You are talking about insurance costs I hope?

Because the Chrysler TC ran mid 15's @ 80 mph Just because parts of it were made by maserati doesn't make it any less of a pos K-car lol

I am speaking of cost of purchasing and value/cost of insurance. Read the artical and those prices were for 1989, 1990, and 1991.

http://www.westegg.com/inflation/

1989- $33,000; 2008- $56,599
1990- $35,500; 2008- $57,768
1991- $37,000; 2008- $57,782

What I can say about the Ins. Biz is that no matter what, its so hard to compare apples to apples. Here are just a few factors companies use for devising rating structures.

Age of Driver
Driving History (how long, accident/losses/violations with in 5 yrs)
Use (work or pleasure, or even business)
Annual Milage
Location where the veh is parked primarily
The vehicle itself (yr make model)
Coverages (Liability only or with full coverage, also the better coverage carried cheaper the rates are due to showing responisbility)
Consumer report (accident reports and credit info)

Every company has their Recipe for pricing and its going to vary from customer to customer. Younger drivers for us is from 16 to 25 and then they are considered adult and prices general drop. At about age 60, accidents on the majority or % of people driving increases so prices go up.
